Unit Converter

Convert between units across multiple categories: data sizes (binary and decimal — KiB vs KB), time, length, weight, temperature, angle, and speed. Type a value in one unit and see it in all related units simultaneously. The data size converter correctly distinguishes between binary (1024-based) and decimal (1000-based) units.

Unit Converter — Convert between units — data sizes (binary/decimal), time, length, weight, temperature, angle, speed

What it does

  • Data sizes: bytes, KB/MB/GB (decimal, 1000-based) and KiB/MiB/GiB (binary, 1024-based)
  • Time: seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years
  • Length: meters, feet, inches, miles, kilometers, nautical miles
  • Weight: grams, kilograms, pounds, ounces, tons
  • Temperature: Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin
  • Angle: degrees, radians, gradians
  • Speed: m/s, km/h, mph, knots

Use cases

  • Converting between binary and decimal data sizes (is 1 GB 1000 or 1024 MB?)
  • Converting temperatures between Celsius and Fahrenheit
  • Converting lengths for international specifications
  • Converting speeds for aviation or maritime contexts

How it works

1

Type a value and select its unit

2

The tool shows the equivalent in all related units simultaneously

3

For data sizes, both binary (KiB) and decimal (KB) are shown

Frequently asked questions

1What's the difference between KB and KiB?

KB (kilobyte) is 1000 bytes (decimal, SI standard). KiB (kibibyte) is 1024 bytes (binary, IEC standard). Operating systems traditionally use binary units (calling them KB), while storage manufacturers use decimal units. This tool shows both to avoid confusion.

2Does temperature conversion handle negative values?

Yes. The converter handles negative temperatures correctly for Celsius and Fahrenheit. Kelvin is always non-negative (0K is absolute zero), so negative Celsius/Fahrenheit values convert to positive Kelvin.

3Can I convert between categories?

No. Each category (data, time, length, weight, temperature, angle, speed) is independent. You can't convert meters to seconds, for example. Select the category that matches your input unit.
